Seeking Loads...

...of laundry advise!

I've recently come to terms with the fact that I am not a very good housekeeper. Cleaning and certainly organizing are not skills or talents I posses! I would much rather play, dance, create some obscure project and such- but I am trying to do better, and in this attempt I am thinking that there must be people out there who are skilled in these areas I am not good at who may have a thing or two they can share with me!

I usually get the point where our dirty laundry is in heaps, usually flowing over the hampers, and I take one or two days of laborious laundry washing, drying, folding and the dreaded putting away. Then I vow never to let it pile up so high again, but in my "burnt out on laundry" state, avoid the laundry for too long and before I know it I am facing the dreaded dirty laundry mountains once again!

So, I am asking for any advise on keeping up on laundry. What works for you? What help can you offer my sorry, not good at keeping up on laundry self?

I am not any expert by far but this is what I do. I usually pick 2 days of the week (like Mon and fri) just whatever fits my schedule and do a load of whites, lights, then darks; just 3 loads each day and it goes by pretty fast. I try to fold each load as soon as they come out of the dryer otherwise it's just way too overwhelming to fold a huge pile. Then i usually do a load of towels whenever during the week. Then we do Jeremy's work laundry by itself cuz it is usually too dirty to mix with my precious baby's onesies!!
hope that helps a little...

As you know I share in your hatred and frustrations in laundering.

I was reading a blog the other day where a lady said that the first thing she does when she gets her mail is sort it. If she didn't it would end up in a huge pile that would only get bigger and bigger throughout the week.

I'm taking this approach to laundry. Day by day. Washing, Drying, and the dreaded folding and putting away. I feel like if I do a little a day the RIGHT way. I will be better off.

Now to implement it. Hmmmm.

I usually just plan on doing 1-2 loads of laundry two days each week. It usually ends up being Tuesday & Wednesday for me...and I like to fold laundry while talking on the phone or watching tv. That way it doesn't seem so tedious and never-ending. :]

Hi there! So, I have the same nightmare of laundry with a family of five to keep up on and I found something that helps. I went to this awesome website called FlyLady and it helped me learn how to get my whole life running smoother. The site is http://www.flylady.net/ and it even lets you work up to things at your pace and everything. Hope it helps! LaNae (http://naebear1982.blogspot.com/)

I'm right there with you...I rather work on a fun project that do laundry but it has to get done. It only gets worse as kids get older and your family gets bigger. Take Lindy's advice, I try to do the same and it seems to work pretty good for me. It's amazing how staring down the dirty cloths can ruin the day!

My advice is to go look at Shaye's laundry room on a Saturday when she's had a busy week. It'll make you feel better about your laundry! Just kidding, it just reminds me that I don't have as much as she does. I just do it when I have full loads. We have a sorter with three laundry bags on it, so I sort into whites, colors and darks. All the laundry goes in that. When I have a full load of whatever, I throw it in. And I usually watch a favorite tv show while I fold and put away. Good luck!

Hi Kiersten! I just gotta say that you will probably never regret having had large piles of laundry left to do each week. You might regret if you did not take the time to play with your kids, have fun, and enjoy life! That is the best kind of mom, in my opinion.

With that said, I am one of those who prefers to do a load every day. As our family has grown, so have the piles and I feel like doing one load a day helps to keep it down a bit.

Keep on playing with those little ones(and doing laundry when you run out of pants)!
