here's hoping

(mr. gibbs at four weeks old)

For whatever reason I have been blessed with some fussy babies.

Eman being the fussiest (from day one) and my first, was quite the shocking crash course into motherhood. We swaddled him, shushed him, bounced him, danced with him- tried swings, slings, cuddling, singing, medicine and so on...until one day, when he was about four months old, he was happy.

Lulu, although not quite so fussy like her brother, was a bit high maintenance. She was fussy when anyone but her momma had her. So, the first year or so of her life I spent carrying her, holding her, being with her as much as I possibly could, until one day she was just fine on her own (when she wants to be).

Gibbs is yet another story. He was a dream baby from the very beginning. Sleeping, eating, sleeping some more. And when he was awake for the hour or two a day he was looking around, calmly taking in his surroundings. He did that for the first four weeks or so of his life- just long enough for us to get packed, move and get unpacked into our new place. Then, the fussiness began. He really isn't too fussy- he has plenty of very happy moments where he is smiley, and so very very happy talking to us. But, a few times a day he has these fussy spells- that seem to be getting worse.

I paid close attention to his fussy fits yesterday and have decided that I think it has to do with gas. I think his little belly is becoming gassy, and uncomfortable and I am not exactly sure what to do about it. I have already cut out dairy, chocolate, beans, and onions, and I am not sure there is much more I can cut out of my diet!

So- last night I also looked up different remedies and have come across Gripe Water.

This morning I picked some up- and here's hoping it'll work and my sweet Gibbs will be the content little dumpling he was weeks ago.

If anyone has any other solutions- I'm all for hearing them!

Hey Kiersten,
It sounds like things are going well for you in Utah but we sure miss you here!!! I am sure you've heard of this but we always used Mylicon gas drops for Makayla. She was always fussy and ornery so I don't know if they worked but I was too afraid to stop them in case they were working!

Caylee was TERRIBLY fussy! She cried constantly for the whole first year of her life. At about 3 weeks old we found out that she had acid reflux, so she was put on medicine. It definitely helped, but the poor girl was just in pain all the time. Hopefully, this is not the case with little Gibbs. But I do know what it feels like to have a fussy baby & I sympathize. Good luck with the gripe water! I hope it works wonders! HUGE hugs! :)
